A staple of English cottage gardens since it was introduced in 1573, wallflowers were once available in great variety with doubled flowers. This single perfumed form has flower spikes of mixed colors and speckled and shaded bicolor blooms. Grow in alkaline, well-drained soil.

Sow indoors in pots 10-12 weeks before last frost for first-year bloom. Pinch and grow cool (55-70°F) until transplanted.
Starting Outdoors:
Direct sow in fall in warm winter areas (zones 8-9).

Wallflower 'Fair Lady' combines deep rich shades and unique pastel hues, all sweetly fragrant, in a mix that is welcome in cottage gardens and along the edge of paths and borders, wherever sharply drained soils can be provided. An uncommon vintage flower that stars in spring gardens; remove after bloom to make way for summer annuals.
