Petunia seed production in California once stretched as far as the eye could see. The fields were filled with men in straw boaters and women in sun bonnets painstakingly hand-pollinating the next crop of petunias, their brushes dusted with gold pollen that held the newest, and perhaps best varieties within. The florid Superbissima types, such as 'California Giants,' were from that era and have been perfected in the French hybrids we offer today.
