Tassel Flower

Emilia coccinea
The mini paintbrush blossoms of tassel flower float atop the long stems, adding a blaze of color and a free-spirited ambiance to cottage gardens and containers. It weaves in and about summer border staples and is impactful in drifts at the garden's edge. An unusual cut flower for its vivid scarlet hue contrasts beautifully with its blue-green leaves in bouquets. A rare old-fashioned favorite once called Flora's Paintbrush and Scarlet Cacalia way back in 1827 is now rediscovered.

PLACEMENT & CULTIVATION
Little tufted paintbrush blossoms dance on the tops of curvy stems, weaving in and about summer staples such as smaller zinnias and larkspurs in cottage and cutting gardens. Easy to grow, tassel flower requires little care to continue blooming except assiduously cutting back spent flower stems to avoid the swamping of your planting with a constellation of fuzzy brown seedheads.
