Saponaria 'Graciella'

Saponaria officinalis
Bouncing Bet or Soapwort was a colonial cottage garden staple, included for its utility in cleaning. It has long since scaled the garden fence and appears along country lanes. As children, we rubbed its leaves together with water to create slippery soap suds and delighted in the sweet evening fragrance of the flowers. This variety is quick to bloom—the first year from seed—and is sturdy and long-lived. Cannot ship to CO.

Perennial soapwort has been transformed by a skillful breeder to flower the same year, starting midsummer from early sowing indoors. Add airy grace notes to containers and garden edges with the sweetly fragrant flowers blooming in clusters. It is a resilient choice for rock gardens, cottage, and herb gardens in well-drained soils in the sun. Deadhead to curtail possible excessive self-sowing.
