Fennel Flower

Nigella sativa
A fennel flower, better known as black cumin, black caraway, and nutmeg flower, is revered in many cultures for its potent healing effects, used since antiquity. It has watery-blue flowers and elegant foliage, but the seeds are the star of the show. Once used as a condiment, sprinkled over loaves of bread and more, it has been suggested it was the 'Fitches' mentioned in Isiah in the bible.

PLACEMENT & CULTIVATION
Renowned for its medicinal and culinary properties since the 1500s in England, Nigella sativa, also known as nutmeg flower and black cumin or black caraway, is an essential part of the spice garden. Herb and cottage gardens are its natural home, for the blossoms are delicate and adorable rather than big and showy. Its matte black seeds are the spice, allow the seed heads to develop and harvest the capsules later in the season.
