WHEN TO SET OUTSIDE
2 weeks after last springtime frost.
PLACEMENT & CULTIVATION
Heliotrope attracts pollinators, including Swallowtails and Monarchs, and enhances borders of summer annuals and patio containers with its sweet almond and vanilla fragrance. Pinch when setting out, use an even hand when watering, and deadhead for flowers until frost. Flowers well indoors in winter in a cool situation and misted often. Caution: all parts contain some toxic elements.
Watering Details:
Water regularly—about 1" or so per week to keep evenly moist. More during especially dry periods or if growing in containers.
Soil pH:
Slightly acidic to neutral
Fertilizer:
Mix in an organic granular fertilizer monthly. Alternatively, fertilize regularly throughout the summer with a water-soluble liquid feed, typically once a month. A fertilizer formulated for flowers is beneficial.
Diseases & Pests:
No major pests or diseases. Spider mites and aphids may be an issue—hose down plants with a heavy stream of water regularly until the pest is gone.
When to Cut for Bouquets:
Harvest when flowers 3/4 to fully open.
