Cosmos 'Xanthos' is a great improvement over the heirloom yellow cosmos that often begins to flower just a few weeks shy of frost here in zone 5b. This new freely blooming variety is compact and blooms early too. It has charming soft yellow flowers with single or collarette rounded petals. This award winner is a feather in the cap of breeder Rob van der Voort!

PLACEMENT & CULTIVATION
Cosmos 'Xanthos' is a new compact selection with a bevy of blooms in primrose yellow, some single, some with extra petals. Grow in a large container or mix with pastel pink and blue flowers in the border. Pinch once when 1' tall to encourage more branching and deadhead, or cut often for bouquets for non-stop blooms. It attracts numerous beneficial insects, making it an excellent addition to the borders of vegetable gardens too!

Drought tolerant. Water regularly while establishing, then only during dry, hot spells.

Fertilizer:
Cosmos thrive in regular soil and may sprawl in nitrogen rich soils. If desired, an application of organic flower fertilizer can be mixed in around plants.
Diseases & Pests:
No major pests or diseases. Powdery mildew can be discouraged with a regular preventative application of a baking soda based spray.
When to Cut for Bouquets:
Harvest when flowers start to open to 1/2 open; best vase life before the flowers are pollinated.
