WHEN TO SET OUTSIDE
In springtime, after all danger of frost has passed.
PLACEMENT & CULTIVATION
For the kid in all of us, a deliciously chocolate-scented cosmos flower! This species was first illustrated in Curtis' Botanical Magazine in 1883; this choice selection is more compact than the species, flowering most profusely in summer and fall in regions with warm, dry days and cool nights. Tolerant of some drought and great in well-drained borders, avoid heavy wet clay soils as they may rot in such conditions. Pinch out stem tips when plants reach about 1.5' tall and deadhead spent blooms. If planted in beds, lift the tuberose roots after frost with stems attached and store over winter, if desired, covered with lightly damp sand or peat moss and held in cool conditions. Keeping over will result in more robust plants the following year.
