Direct sow in late fall or spring in zones 8-10, early spring elsewhere
PLACEMENT & CULTIVATION
Clasping coneflower is easy to grow native annual and adaptable to many conditions. It is filled with flowers in summer, especially if grown in rich, organic soils, and butterflies and bees find it full of nectar and pollen. Add to meadow plantings and informal borders and pollinator gardens.
Watering Details:
1" per week; tolerates drought once established, but performs best when kept evenly moist.
Soil pH:
Prefers acidic to neutral but tolerates a wide pH range.
Fertilizer:
Prior to planting, mix in about 2" of compost or some organic granular fertilizer.
Diseases & Pests:
No major pests or diseases.
When to Cut for Bouquets:
Harvest when flowers are fully open.
