Ipomoea lobata
Native to Mexico, this showy vine was introduced in 1841. This member of the morning glory family has arching sprays of tubular flowers that change from crimson to butter-yellow, giving a delightful multi-colored effect. Grow in a large pot with a trellis for the twining stems to catch hold, and fertilize only with low nitrogen flower fertilizer as the first buds start to form. Best in a warm, sheltered spot, where it will twine upwards and start to flower late summer to frost.

SOWING INSTRUCTIONS
Depth:
1/4-1/2". Tip: Nick or file the seed coat prior to soaking seeds in warm water for 24 hours prior to sowing.

Mix in 2" of compost prior to planting and apply a flower fertilizer at bud set for more abundant blooming. Avoid nitrogen fertilizers that favor foliage growth over flower development.

Avoid fungal troubles by spacing properly and planting in a location that has decent air circulation.
