Hibiscus 'Mahogany Splendor'

Hibiscus acetosaella
We love flowers, but good foliage is essential for that perfect garden vignette. Unfortunately, this gorgeous tropical deep rose hibiscus blooms too late for many up North; we have to be satisfied with the foliage only. But what foliage! What comes to mind is a cherished old garnet-red Japanese maple with serrated leaves, but in the form of a lithe red-hued annual. Grow in contrast with lime-green and orange plants for that wow factor!

PLACEMENT & CULTIVATION
Hibiscus 'Mahogany Splendor' adds depth and complexity to mixed borders, its deep burgundy red foliage the perfect backdrop to bright red flowers such as lobelia and hibiscus 'Texas Star'. Also outstanding as a hedge and container specimen. Full sun brings out the deep, rich coloring. It thrives in summer's heat and humidity—plant in a warm, sheltered spot in moist, well-drained soils. Teardrop-shaped buds open to burgundy flowers in longer season areas in late summer and fall. Self-sows where hardy.
